Our Master Gardeners offer their gardening expertise through free classes throughout the year. We also host other local experts who further advance our gardening training.

Whitley County Master Gardeners members and friends meet on the 1st Thursday of February through June and August through November. We begin with a 30-minute education session taught by our Master Gardeners, Purdue educators, and community members with expertise in gardening and environmental practices.
Gardening classes start at 6:00 PM, followed by our monthly members meeting at 6:30 PM. Both portions are free and open to the public.
Meetings are held at the Peabody Public Library in Community Room A.
August 6, 2026: Backyards for Bats
Join IN Master Naturalist and long-time bat enthusiast Barbara Christensen to learn how to create interest in your back yard for bats, if bat houses are for you, and who you may see flitting around in the dusk. Weather permitting, we will venture outside with a detector to see what bats we see AND hear!
September 3, 2026: Gardens in Whitley County
Join us to learn about gardens maintained by Whitley County Master Gardeners. Garden leads and liaisons will share where these magical gardens are and their garden focus and joys. Learn how you — our members and any of our friends in the community — can get involved in beautifying our community!
Whitley County Master Gardeners is partnering with the Peabody Public Library to share more gardening knowledge with the community! Learn practical techniques that you can apply in your home garden and landscape.
Classes begin at 2:00 PM and may run to 4:00 PM and are held in Peabody Public Library in Auditorium 1, 2, & Stage. This is a free event and does NOT require a library card to attend.
